The New FD75 Prepares for U.S. Debut

NEWS | April 09, 2020

Hull Two of the brand new Horizon FD75 model is currently under construction and on schedule to deliver to the U.S. this summer. This newest addition to the Fast Displacement Series is designed to provide owner/operators with all of the amenities befitting a “pocket superyacht.”

The challenge behind the FD75 concept was to create a yacht that maintained the volume and hull design of the FD Series at an overall length that was manageable for owner/operators without losing some of the coveted FD Series features, such as an on-deck master or the option of a beach club.

Incorporating four staterooms, a pilothouse, flybridge, galley, salon, and quarters for two crew within a 20’ 4” overall beam and 75’ LOA was a design challenge that Horizon’s engineers and Vision Shipyard were eager to undertake. The first FD75 was unveiled to the world at the Horizon 2020 Open House in January.

Designed for the American market, the second FD75 features the High Performance Piercing Bow and hull design that provides optimal comfort and performance and distinguishes the FD Series from other high-volume designs. Quarters for two crew are situated furthest aft, behind the engine room housing the twin Caterpillar C-18 ACERT of 1,150MHP, while three staterooms comprising a full-beam VIP amidships and a twin and single forward occupy the forward half of the yacht.

Fully opening doors lead from the aft deck into the main salon, which is further opened up by floor-to-ceiling windows. The galley area has been situated aft and features a convertible bar that accommodates cocktails and dining on the aft deck while a transformable breakfast bar/dining table to port facilitates interior dining.

The most significant design challenge for the FD75 involved incorporating both an interior wheelhouse and an on-deck master stateroom. Here, Horizon designed a semi-raised pilothouse and a stepped-down master stateroom in a split-level plan that still allowed for a spacious open flybridge and no compromise to the FD signature profile.

Owner/operators are provided the flexibility of both an interior helm station as well as a flybridge aboard the FD75. Featuring an overhead skylight from sliding hatch to flybridge and fitted with a single helm chair, settee and fiber optic RGB backlit counter space, the wheelhouse continues the owner/operator consideration.

Stairs from the wheelhouse lead to the flybridge, where a helm station and twin chairs are positioned forward, followed by a bar area with three bar stools, barbecue, refrigeration, storage and well designed dayhead. A large U-shaped settee to starboard will be the preferred al fresco dining area. The boat deck can be fitted with freestanding loungers while the tender is launched.

The FD75 Hull Two is on schedule to deliver to the U.S. in August 2020 and will make her grand debut at the 2020 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. For more information on the FD75, please contact [email protected].
