Nearly 100 guests, 15 sets of owners, and ten Horizon yachts gathered in The Abacos for a weekend celebration.
Getting back on “island time” was the theme of the 9th Horizon Yachts Owner Rendezvous, which kicked off with a bang this year in the Bahamas’ Abaco islands from May 20-22nd and gathered ten Horizon yachts, 15 sets of Horizon yacht owners, and nearly 100 owners and guests to the island.
A favorite cruising area for many Horizon yachts and owners, the Abaco islands were the obvious destination for the three-day event given the past few years of hardship. In 2019, the Abacos were devastated by the Category 5 Hurricane Dorian, after which the COVID-19 pandemic hindered the recovery and rebuilding process, so the timing was right for Horizon to show its support of the resilient locals and these beautiful cruising grounds.
Horizon yachts representing multiple build series and ranging in size from an E70 to an FD110 gathered at the host site of the Abaco Beach Resort and Boat Harbour Marina for a weekend of mingling, exploring and celebrating. The event kicked off with the christening ceremony of the brand new E90, Lazy Daze, whose owners were welcomed to the Horizon family with a champagne toast on the docks.
From beach parties and dancing to poolside games, impromptu yacht hops and mouthwatering local fare, the weekend’s itinerary included excursions to visit with the famous swimming pigs of No Name Cay, golf cart exploration of the colorful Hope Town, and tropical beach fun that included refreshing cocktails at the Thirsty Cuda swim-up cocktail barge at Tahiti Beach. The three-day celebration was capped off by a memorable Farewell Bahamian Bash on the beach that included an exciting Junkanoo performance.
Among the many gestures of support for the Abacos islands from the HY USA team and owners, attendees generously donated truckloads of pet food and supplies to the Abaco Shelter – the only pet shelter on the island – during the event as well.
“Getting back on island time with the Horizon family at this year’s rendezvous was an incredibly meaningful experience,” says HY USA director Roger Sowerbutts. “We were happy to support the wonderful people of the Abacos islands with this festive weekend celebration, which joined together so many Horizon owners to share their build experiences and cruising stories and make plans for future rendezvous.”
Horizon Yacht USA extends our sincere gratitude to all the owners and guests who made this year’s rendezvous such a memorable event!
