Horizon FD Series Captures the Eyes of Yacht Owners around the World
NEWS | April 10, 2017
With her modem styling, unique hull design, efficient performance and interior volume, the Horizon Yachts Fast Displacement (FD) series has intrigued owners and clients around the world since her unveiling last year. In addition to a European customer who came to Taiwan to sign an order for FD85 hull five, four consecutive groups of potential customers from Australia traveled to Taiwan last week to experience the FD85 first-hand and discuss the details of their dream yacht with Horizon’s design team.
Featuring Horizon’s new High Performance Piercing Bow (HPPB), the FD85 and FD87 Skyline saw across-the-board hydrodynamic improvements in both tank and CFD testing during the design stage. While alternative bow designs that feature protrusions work more efficiently at either high or slower speeds, the HPPB brings both efficiency at slower speeds and performance at higher speeds. With a 23’2” beam, the new Horizon FD85 provides five en suite guest staterooms – a full-beam King master stateroom on deck and two mirrored VIP queen staterooms as well as two twin guest staterooms below deck – with crew quarters found just forward of the engine room.
The main salon and formal dining room incorporate sections of floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a design feature that is carried into the Master stateroom as well and dramatically increases natural light in these areas. Horizon focuses on both function and entertaining when designing the FD85’s outdoor spaces. An abundance of aft deck space incorporates built-in and loose seating as well as accessibility to the raised foredeck from the starboard side deck; the twin staircases from the aft deck to the flybridge provide a stylish design feature that is also practical. On the flybridge, the FD85 offers an outdoor helm, full bar, two adjacent L-shaped dinettes, space for sunbathing, and a hot tub -- ideal for enjoying the outdoors; an interior helm is connected to the flybridge for easy transition between helms.
Springing from the eye-catching FD85, the new Horizon FD87 Skyline retains many of the FD85’s unique features, but different from the FD85, the FD87 Skyline boasts a fully enclosed bridge with access to a Portuguese walkway leading forward to the bow and an inviting seating area. FD87 Skyline also features a spacious beach club and swim platform aft, which provides a perfect spot for relaxing close to the water or enjoying watersports activities.
Horizon CEO John Lu says, “We are happy to see the FD series is gaining popularity with yacht owners around the world, particularly the FD85 for its blend of cutting-edge design with truly usable living and entertaining spaces comparable to most 100-foot plus yachts. This attention has proven that Horizon’s yachts, especially those developed in response to market research like the FD85, have gained traction for their emphasis on innovation as well as Horizon’s commitment that we will exceed the needs of all our owners.”
